Mandaluyong City. It was 3 hours of intense conversation. Sarah (not her real name) is at the office when a great opportunity for spiritual connection arises. An older office mate starts talking with her about the Bible. He seems intent on proving that he has the “true” understanding of it. Sarah is drawn into the debate for a good amount of time, making her point that salvation can only be a gift, unearned and undeserved. Many other coworkers are an earshot away from this conversation, obviously listening in. Voices intensify as the minutes roll. Then at the 1hr 30min point…

Sarah stops talking. “You’re not going to get through by proving that you’re right, Sarah.”, said the Holy Spirit. Sarah spends the next hour and a half simply listening to the older coworker, muffling her urges to say what she knows is right. The older coworker exhausts his arguments, and both are able to say their closing remarks. Sarah reiterates her point: salvation is a gift (Ephesians 2:8-9). After a significant silence, the older coworker says: “I just can’t bring myself to believe that it’s all free…”

One of the other people in the room approached Sarah afterward. “Ang hot mo na kanina sa usapan ah!” But that wasn’t a mocking statement; because that same coworker would then share a personal problem with Sarah. Not only did Sarah make an older person realize his aversion for a free gift, but she also gained the trust of a peer. The Holy Spirit is wise and loving.

These are some of the first major steps Sarah has made to reach our generation in the workplace. She seeks to fulfill the vision of our church: laymen creating movements wherever they are at. She is currently handling a small group Bible study in her office. She has also created connections with the Christians that are already there.

Please pray for Sarah! Already some fears and discouragements have confronted her. But she presses on in courage. Praise God!

a free gift of salvation from GOD is too good to be true to accept..but that’s why ‘grace’ is the only word that will fit to its description..praise GOD for HIS unfathomable love!!
